McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release

McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release (MSTR®) is a form of scar tissue treatment. In many cases, long lasting changes are made to the physical and emotional effects of surgical or trauma wound scars.

You can book an MSTR session with Barbara.

About McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release

This gentle but effective technique involves the therapist lightly working on the scar with their fingers, to help increase the blood circulation and lymphatic flow to the area. It is pain free and can be used on children and adults alike.

The body forms scar tissue as a natural response to trauma.  When the skin is lacerated, collagen laid down in the process of repair can result in a thickened fibrous mass which can impede blood circulation and lymph flow. Sometimes the range of motion can be impeded. Quite often scars are linked to an emotional event and as a result there can be psychological effects to scar tissue.

Experienced Bowen Therapist, Barbara Zair, is now fully qualified in MSTR®:

“When a scar forms the fibres of the skin repair in an ad hoc and un-uniformed way, which can cause restrictions in movement as the scar tissue pulls on surrounding tissue and even joints. The skin will also often tighten around the scar area.

MSTR® can help loosen these restrictions and allow more freedom in the skin surrounding the scar. Just one session of MSTR® will start the process of changing the scar from tough and fibrous to softer and more supple. Scars that are numb can regain feeling as the nerve endings rejointhe treatment really can be life changing.”

What are the benefits of MSTR®?

  • Improve the texture of the scar

  • Reduce the redness of the scar

  • Reduce the appearance of an aged scar

  • Reduce the feeling of itching, burning or hypersensitivity linked to scars

  • Loosen restrictions and adhesions caused by scar

  • Release emotional trauma attached to the scar

MSTR® can help normalise the collagen filaments in the layers of skin which in turn can help the scar to become less visible and in some cases it is completely reabsorbed  by the body.

Sessions usually last between 30 – 60 minutes depending on the size, age, position and emotional attachment of the scar.

Scars need to be at least 6/8 weeks old and completely healed for MSTR® to be applied. Long term scars have also been shown to respond well to treatment.
